KONY 2012: Invisible Children's Effort to Bring Awareness To A War Criminal

"Joseph Kony is #1 on the International Criminal Court’s indicted list. As the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), he has abducted over 30,000 children & forced them to be child soldiers. He has remained at large for more than two decades. " -Causes-Invisible Children

Above is a Campaign video made by the non-profit Invisible Children.  The video recaps on a journey an old friend of mine made to find a story in Africa.  What they found was thousands of displaced children who are living in fear of being abducted in the night and forced to become soldiers in the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) under the command of a war criminal, Joseph Kony.  Not only is Kony at fault but also Yoweri Museveni  for allowing this to go on as it has without taking action or he, himself being removed from office for doing nothing about these crimes.  Kony, at the heart of this war, has taken children from their homes and forced them to murder, rape and imprison many.  Jacob is featured in the video and is a representation of the tragedy in Uganda and many other parts of that nation.  I don't have all the facts here but Invisible Children is doing their darnedest to spread awareness of Joseph Kony so that he may be brought to justice and so that no one can let this man remain anonymous.
Please watch the video that now, more than 15 million people have seen in the last 24 hrs including many celebrities like Rihanna, Oprah, Jay-Z and thousands others who are trying to help bring awareness and support the cause to bring Kony down.

Jason Russell changed my life during my time in Christian Youth Theater.  Before he went to grad school for film at USC, he was inspiring kids like me to sing and dance and love God and he gave me the chance of a lifetime as a lead role in a musical.  That experience I hold very dear to my heart and I knew then, bowing to a standing ovation, I would become a singer and entertainer. I am so proud to have worked with him on the stage and so proud of him that he is becoming the change he sees in the world.  He saw an injustice and instead of sitting idly by, he's dedicated with his team, nearly 10 years towards a cause that does not affect him directly but thousands of people on the other side of the world.  It's people like him that make you think, wow, I can make a difference.  We can really do something in this world.  With the power of internet, millions of people are connected without borders to spread knowledge, awareness and work together towards a larger goal, bigger than us.  We are all together, humanity.  Let's stop this war.  The point is, now there will be a dialogue.  Now world leaders can take a stand to help bring down a government that allows it's people to be abused and killed.  STOP KONY, bring down Museveni and help rehabilitate the lives of many displaced civilians.

More from Jason Russell Interview on WHY 2012?

While some criticize Invisible Children's efforts, keep in mind they are bringing to attention to a man that most of the world hadn't heard of.  The Cause in itself is to save the children and free the people from Joseph Kony, if not with @Invisible than with any of the other organizations also in place to aid the people of Africa.

To be or not to be...different

Uh oh. Here comes another anecdotal and self-aware journal entry blog post. Yup. You guessed it. So, shall we?

A lot has changed. New year, new President, new ban, new ideas...yet I am still me. New endeavors are in the midst.

I have since decreased most of my medications. And now I'm more me than I have been in 3 years. It's good and bad. I stopped therapy due to not having insurance but plan to go back once I find a new doc on my plan. Starting over....ugh. Not going to be fun.

But here I want to write down my struggle. I struggle to be who I think I need to be and who I am naturally. It's not about being cool or fitting in at this point. I already know I have a lot of "personality." About enough for two or three people. That's either your thing or it's not. Some call it quirky, unique, crazy, lots of different things. I've always had to edit myself in crowds and at work, in school...everywhere. That is why being on the stage was so easy for…

Candwich is back...back again!

The Candwich - Sandwich in a Can
The Candwich - Novelty? Gag Gift? Joke? Lunch? I'd say all of the above. This "sandwich in a can" is definitely silly and weird and I can't tell if it's the best thing in the world or the worst thing in world. Irregardless, I have had the opportunity of working with the Founder, Mark Kirkland, or as some call him the "Earl of Candwich." He is a genuine person and truly wants to give back and help "can" hunger. Mark is no stranger to controversy and has had his fair share of hiccups along the way in building his Candwich-opoly.

A Viral Sensation
Candwich went viral in 2010 when the New York Times broke the story about a rogue investor who ran a Ponzi Scheme and stole upwards of $145 million from creditors who wanted to invest in Mark One Foods Corp, Candwich's parent company. It took a long time to settle with creditors but Mark has successfully regained control of Candwich and wants to bring his sandwich in …

So this is thirty...

So this is thirty. I haven't been writing much because what you probably don't know is that my new job is to write. It's silly and something I fell into and I'd like for this blog and my many, many years of needing to express myself and tell stories to go into me finding this path. Once a storyteller, always a storyteller. I like to believe that this is true. Since I was young, I have had so much to say. More than most can keep up with. With that, I either entertained and wowed you or sent you running for the hills. Either way, I've learned from the cues and have worked to know where I fit in and when not to speak but when to write down. It started with journals, then poems, then songs, then this blog, more songs, and then I stopped. I transitioned from vomiting feelings on the page to thinking more strategically for an audience and thinking about my brand what I wanted to say to people who follow me. I don't know who realllly follows me, but if I w…
